Sustainable Tourism

Türkiye's sustainable tourism program launched in 2022 with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), which aims to foster responsible tourism practices that respect the environment, benefit the local people, and preserve the cultural values of the destinations.

The program has a three-stage implementation plan, which will be completed by 2030. The first stage, which will be operational in 2023, involves determining the national criteria and training the inspection firms. The second stage, which will be carried out gradually in 2025, involves applying the criteria and monitoring the compliance. The third stage, which will be concluded by 2030, involves meeting all the international standards and achieving the GSTC recognition. The program, which targets accommodation facilities in the first phase, has received the “Acknowledged by GSTC” status. The facilities are independently audited and verified or certified and re-assessed every year.
